Hello friends,
I am coming to you from my third/fourth newsletter platform (I remember having a TinyLetter but I am sure I had something in between that and my Substack?).
No need to sign up again because if you have already subscribe to my Substack, I imported you over. I left Substack because, put simply, I did not want to share a platform with neo-nazis/fascists and bring traffic (however small it may be) to a website that profits off this hate.
Now onto more interesting/nicer things; I also felt ready to start publishing writing/newsletters under my full name and have a bit more diversity in my writing (I still write the personal mini essays that I have written in these news letters over the years). I would like to write reflections on the study I plan to take over the next year; yoga teacher training, starting my psychology degree and maybe starting a postpartum doula course.
I also want to return to writing about politics. And unlearn what I held/learned while studying Politics where I believed that I had to be neutral to be taken seriously and listened to.
So welcome to the latest version of this newsletter, and before I sign off I just wanted to let you know about a fundraiser I have created and will be taking part in for ten weeks from October 1.
Yoga in Motion: 100,000 Steps for Perinatal Mental Health
From Oct 1 – Dec 10, I’ll be completing 100,000 steps worth of yoga to raise funds for the Gidget Foundation.
Each year, around 100,000 Australian parents are impacted by perinatal depression and anxiety. This challenge is my way of honouring their journeys and raising awareness and support.
I chose yoga because it played a critical role in the final stages of my own healing from postpartum depression and anxiety. Yoga gave me a place to find myself again, and I am now working towards becoming a pre and postnatal yoga teacher to support other parents.
The Gidget Foundation provides vital services to ensure parents are not alone during pregnancy and early parenthood. Every practice, every breath, and every step in this challenge is dedicated to bringing hope and healing to families.
I am planning to post reflections throughout the ten weeks on here, but if you would like to donate/follow my progress, please visit my fundraising page.
Kindly,
Keshia
